TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (32) 1 February : Proverbs 10v29 / Genesis 40-41 / Psalm 10v4-12

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
Throughout Joseph is exempliary, bearing witness to God throughout. And God's perfect timing and wise purposes in Jospeh's hardships is revealed as he is brought to the most prominent postion possible in the known world of his day! This is how ably God can fulfil his purposes. Abraham was Joseph's great-grandad. So just three generations after God promised the ancient Abraham that he would bless the world through offspring by his barren wife, God has his descendent doing just that in Egypt. As we despair over the decline of our own culture and church, let's remember that Jesus reigns on high, and if he so choose he can establish people to whatever position he chooses. But most important here, let's remember that God has exalted Jesus as the giver of life to whom the nations of the world must now come. As you read consider the parallels between Joseph's life and Jesus'.

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
