TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (295) 22 October : Proverbs 17v21 / 1 Corinthians 15-16 / Psalm 69v5-9

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on
Understanding to grow in
Pouring ourselves out for Christ is worth it. That's the point of this section on the resurrection (15v30-32, 58). It seems some were doubting Christ was truly raised. Paul is adamant that he was as he was seen by numerous witnesses. He is also clear that believing this is essential to saving faith. It is to believe that Jesus is now reigning on high, and will one day destroy death. Although, like seeds, our bodies will be buried in the ground, they will therefore be raised to immortality. The illustration of the seed stresses who we are then will still be us, but far far more glorious. No matter what happens as we serve Christ, then, this future is certain. And so it's fitting that reflection on this is followed by practical instructions on Christian service. As with Paul and his readers, we can give money sacrificially, we can face opposition and work hard for the Lord. As you read note what we learn about the resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15-16

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
