TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (296) 23 October : Proverbs 17v22 / 2 Corinthians 1-2 / Psalm 69v10-13

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on
Understanding to grow in
This letter was most likely written just a few months after 1 Corinthians, and begins with Paul affirming his concern for his readers. He readily faces hardships for their sakes, and if comforted, is delighted if that comforts them. More than that, Paul stresses that it was for their sake that he didn't return to Corinth as he didn't want to be thought too controlling in dealing with their compromises in the faith. Instead he dealt with the issues as we read in his first letter. And now the Corinthians have dealt with the immoral man mentioned in 1 Corinthians 5, Paul urges them to reaffirm their love for him. As with his other letters then, we see something of Paul's pastoral heart here as an example for us. In all things he is concerned for the glory of Christ and the good of others. It's a reason to trust him in his claim to be an apostle of God just as it was for the Corinthians. As you read note the various ways that is displayed.
2 Corinthians 1-2

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
