TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (298) 25 October : Proverbs 17v24 / 2 Corinthians 6v14-9v15 / Psalm 69v19-29

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on
Understanding to grow in
Those who have committed to Christ seek godliness. That dominates this section. It is to be called out of the ways of the world and so to living differently, in all purity, holiness and reverence. Paul encourages the Corinthians that they have displayed this in their repentance after his first letter. But he urges them to display it too, in the sort of sacrifical genersity with money the Macedonian churches had already shown. The cause is a collection Paul is making for impoverished Christians in Jerusalem. The principle is that of the gospel: Just as Christ became poor so we could be rich, we must be willing to follow his example. And the motivation should be a joy before God in being able to give, a desire that he is honoured by the recipients, and a confidence that if our giving makes us lacking, God is well able to make up any shortfall. As you read note the particular challenges.
2 Corinthians 6:14-9:15

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
