TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (68) 9 March : Proverbs 11v28 / Exodus 7v14-9v7 / Psalm 18v46-50

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
It was in Exodus 3v18 that God instructs Moses to ask Pharoah to let the people go for three days to make sacrifices. Obviously the LORD always intended a complete leaving (3v8). It seems the lesser request was therefore to show just how stubborn Pharoah would be in not even being prepared to grant it. And this stubborness is seen all the more with each plague that passes. They demonstrate God's authority over creation and so over the false nature-gods worshipped in Egypt. They also show his care for Israel in exempting them from the plagues. And the miracle is not just in what takes place but its timing. Even when natural explanations might be given for the miraculous, their divine nature is seen in them occuring just when needed. This is the God whose Son calmed a storm and raised the dead with a word. We can be sure he is well able to re-create all things as promised (2 Pet 3v10-13). As you read note the different things God shows himself to be sovereign over.

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
