TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (71) 12 March : Proverbs 11v29 / Exodus 9v8-11v10 / Psalm 19v1-6

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
The plagues intensify. The final killing of the firstborn is shocking as God's judgments are. However, we must remember that the Egyptian people had been prospering from the enslavement of Israel, which would have no doubt involved the death of many innocent Israelites. Moreover, Pharoah had commanded the execution of Israelite babies, and although many were saved some would have been killed as the action of Moses' mother implies (Ex 1v16, 2v3). As Israel is God's firsborn son in the sense of being the nation from the nations he chooses to inherit what he has to give, we can start to see how the punishment of the final plague therefore fits the cimes of Egypt (Ex 4v22-23). It reminds us that all who refuse to repent like Pharoah will also receive their due at the final judgment under Christ (Rom 2v5-6). As you read note the various reasons given for the plagues.
Exodus 9:8-11:10

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
