TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (81) 22 March : Proverbs 12v7 / Exodus 27-28 / Psalm 22v1-6

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
The detail continues with the all important altar within the tabernacle court, and the priesthood. If God is to be present amongst a sinful people sacrifice must be made to pay the penalty for sin. Whoever might desire the role, the High Priesthood is reserved only for Aaron's male descendents. It is God who determines our station in life. Their garments are to reflect the splendour and purity of God's presence - and the gems and pomegranates in the design are another reminder the tabernacle looks to a heavenly restoration of Eden (Gen 2v12, Rev 21v19-20). Having the names of the twelve tribes enscribed on stones attached to their garments shows that the High Priest represents the people before God, with the seal engraved "holy to the LORD" reminding them of Israel's calling to be set apart. Two roles are noted for the High Priests: One is to make decisions by drawing out certain stones known as Urim and Thummim from the breastpiece. The sense is that like drawing straws, God will have arranged them a certain way to signify his will. The second role is to make atonement in the holy place for Israel's guilt, so making their own offerings acceptable. A third role not mentioned here is of teaching God's law. As our great High Priest Christ now fufils each. As you read consider what the detail intends to portray about Israel's offerings and priesthood as a shadow of Christ.
Exodus 27-28

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
