TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (156) 5 June : Proverbs 14v11 / Numbers 33-34 / Psalm 37v7-9

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
Our God is a great big God! In brief his exploits since the Exodus are recounted. He brought the hoards of Israel out of Egypt having shown his power over its false gods in the plagues. He led and provided for the people for 40 years in the desert, and has now brought them to the border of the land he had promised To Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. We need never doubt his ability to fulfil his promises. But enjoying their fulfilment here is to be dependent on driving out the Canaanite peoples in judgment for their sins (33v56). Unless this is done, they will cause Israel trouble and lead them astray. Likewise, ensuring we remain faithful and enjoy all God has for us is dependent on our not aligning too closely with unbelievers so that we follow their practices (2 Cor 6v13), and ensuring ungodliness is kept out of the church (Heb 12v15). As you read note the different things God gives the Israelites.

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
