TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (162) 11 June : Proverbs 14v15 / Deuteronomy 4 / Psalm 37v25-29

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
Seeing is believing. The structure here is that because Israel saw God act for them in the Exodus, they should readily love and obey him, and by doing so display his wisdom and greatness to the nations. But what is easy to miss is that the Exodus was witnessed by the previous generation, not this one that is preparing to enter the land. That's what it is to be one of God's people. We stand in line with those before us. What the apostles saw has been passed to us down the generations, so that we might say that we've seen it too. And it is on that basis that we love and obey Christ. That's why its so important to remind ourselves of what we've inherited and pass the faith onto our children, just as Israel were called to remember their covenant. As you read consider the promises God makes to Israel and their equivalent for us in Jesus.

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
