TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (232) 20 August : Proverbs 16v3 / John 12v20-13v38 / Psalm 55v4-11

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
The glory or excellence of Jesus is most on display at the cross. There we see the heights of his self-sacrifice as he is ready to die and be buried, so that like a seed he will bring a great harvest that includes not just Jews but Greeks. There we see his power in driving out the devil as souls are rescued from his power. There we see his humility in being ready to wash sinners clean just as he washes Peter's feet. There we see his love in being prepared to be betrayed by one of his closest friends to this end. And there we see his true status as the Son of God, whom the Father glorifies by strengthing him to endure to this end, and the raising and seating him on high as king of his kingdom. As you read note the responses we are being urged to.
John 12:20-13:38

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
