TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (248) 5 September : Proverbs 16v17 / Joshua 20-22 / Psalm 59v1-4

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on

Understanding to grow in
At this point things seem so good for Israel. The final details of the allocation of the land are dealt with. Just as Moses had commanded, cities are designated as refuge for those who commit manslaughter, the Levites are given their towns to live in, the three tribes whose request for land east of the Jordan is granted, and in correcting the misunderstanding about the altar, a united concern to honour God is expressed. The main message is found in 21v43-45: Every one of God's promises was fulfilled. What a joy to think on that. It means that every promise about our own inheritance will be fulfilled too. It will be just as God has said it will be - everlasting life in a new and vibrant creation, free of death, suffering and evil, where we will live in perfect unity, security and righteousness, rejoicing forever in the wonder of who God is and the pleasure of serving him together. As you read note what we learn of the LORD.
Joshua 20-22

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
