TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (434) 11 March : Proverbs 21v15 / Isaiah 13v1-14v27 / Psalm 94v15-17

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on
Understanding to grow in
What Assyria did to the northern kingdom in the eight century BC, Babylon did to the southern kingdom between 586 and 605BC. Today's reading is a prophecy predicting how the Lord would use the Medo-Persian Empire to destroy Babylon (as recorded in Daniel 5). The emphasis is on how judgment brings down proud rulers, showing them to be mere men. The cosmic language of these prophecies points to the final judgment that all temporal judgments are a foretaste of. And so it should lead those of every generation to know their right place before the Lord of heaven and earth. Indeed, from looking ahead to Babylon in the sixth century, 14v24-27 then returns to Assyria in the eighth. Whatever century it is, the Lord ensures justice. As you read note what we learn of his justice.
Isaiah 13:1-14:27

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
