TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (441) 18 March : Proverbs 21v20 / Isaiah 25-27 / Psalm 95v8-11

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on
Understanding to grow in
When God's judgment comes people "learn righteousness" (26v9) in that they see that sin is sin and that it is serious. So we are told that God's judgment in destroying hostile and oppressive nations will cause strong and ruthless peoples to honour him, no doubt in seeing what wrong they have done and coming to fear the Lord. And to all who do, and especially his people who have trusted him when oppressed by those nations, God's salvation will bring joy in finally removing tyrants, disgrace, and death itself. In other words, judgment is a good thing. Chapter 27 pictures it as a destruction of a monster, symbolising Satan and the chaos and evil he brings. And what it leaves, is flourishing and forgiven Israel, free of its idolatry, and joined in its worship by some from Assyria and Egypt. As you read note the many things to praise God for.
Isaiah 25-27

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
