TAKE UP THE CHALLENGE

Jesus taught that all scripture testifies about him so that in him we might have life (John 5v39-40). King David taught that it is only by living according to God's word that we're kept on the right path (Psalm 119v9). What then could be better than reading the entire Bible? (550) 5 July : Proverbs 26v1 / Ezekiel 6-7 / Psalm 115v1

BEGIN WITH PRAYER
"Lord open my eyes and my heart."

Read slowly so that you take in. And as you do, turn your heart to God, thanking him for the good you discover and praying his will home for you, your family, your church and the world.

Wisdom to chew on
Understanding to grow in
The destruction of Jerusalem that would come in 586BC is here predicted. It is primarily because of the people's idolatry in worshipping false gods and the practices that led to. It will show the futility of thinking one's wealth can save as money will be able to do nothing to hold back the Babylonian army. And it will result in the nation being without its leaders. It's a stark warning, as all God's judgments in history are, of the final judgment when all refusal to worship the true God will be punished. But one must wonder too, at the fate of our own nation in its worship of false religion or of human reason. But there are a key thing to encourage: In seeing Ezekiel's prophecies come to pass, people will come to know that Israel's God is "the LORD" (6v10, 7v27). From our historical vantage point, we can see just how fully these prophecies were fulfilled (as with those of the other prophets), and so this becomes a word to us too. Will we know Israel's God is Lord, and so repent ourselves (6v9)? As you read note what God condemns.
Ezekiel 6-7

Finish this reading by pausing to ask yourself:
1) What’s the main thing it teaches me about God or his purposes in Christ? Then praise him for this.
2) What’s the main thing it teaches me about his will for me or the world? Then pray that home.

Devotion to offer up
You could read this aloud and perhaps as a springboard to further prayer.
